Find warmth and style between layers

In the cold season, everyone wants to look beautiful and not freeze. Well, if the autumn is very cool, it happens that while waiting for the heating season, the first thing you want is warmth, and aesthetics remain only as an advantage. To avoid having to radically update your wardrobe reserves and still have something to wear - layer. So, what should you know about layering and how to look new all the time?

First, let's start with the description of the combination of clothes. Women tend to describe their most common combination as follows: a cozy sweater and jeans for everyday wear. Two basic clothes cannot yet be called a combination. These two clothes simply cover the body, and the image is formed from more than a few clothes. For example, you are a jeans lover, you choose jeans (I suggest choosing white for work - very stylish and white will be among the favorite colors this winter), you can match them with a white shirt (you will create a monochrome image), black, brown, any bright color, neutral earth colors will also look great. The next step is already shaping your image - this is a jacket, sweater, vest, etc. The fourth step is accessories. Short chains around the neck, massive and high-quality gold-colored jewelry are especially fashionable now, and all of this can be combined with jewelry that is important to you - a wedding and/or engagement ring, inherited/gifted jewelry, etc. It remains to match the shoes and handbag - just avoid matching their colors with each other. I suggest starting with shoes, which should first of all match the weather and environment (if you work in a warm room, always keep light shoes at work that you can change into when you arrive). If the shoes are bright, eye-catching in color or pattern, then the handbag should be monochrome, subtle, and vice versa. All these five elements already form a combination of clothes and accessories. Be careful - you need to learn the art of layering so that you look not only like a lover of warmth wearing several layers, but also stylish.

Basic rules for layering clothes:

  • Color compatibility determines how the final result will look, so you need to know which colors suit you best and how to combine them with each other. It is best to never exceed the limit of three colors, otherwise the image will be very eclectic. Don't want to take risks and experiment? Choose one color or several shades of the same color.
  • Combining different styles is the most difficult and interesting task. Some of the most common are combinations of classic and sporty, romantic (or hippie) and sporty styles, or minimalist and any of the above. There are no rules on how to avoid mistakes when combining different styles. The most interesting combinations require practice and a little courage.
  • The proportionality of the image depends on the compatibility of the volumes of the clothes. If you choose a jacket that is extremely fashionable this season, with wide shoulders, let the trousers or skirt be smaller in volume and vice versa - if you choose sharply flared jeans, a puffy or layered skirt, let the upper part be more fitted. This way you will maintain harmony.
  • Textures that are invisible from a distance are like spices to the whole combination up close. Even if you choose a monochrome black combination (which, by the way, is one of the most recommended by famous fashion designers this winter and one of the safest, because such a combination is almost impossible to "spoil"), it is the different textures that will make it interesting: say, a silk blouse with a wool jacket and jeans.

Some of the most common layering methods:

Shirt + sweater

The simplest and most tried-and-tested layering since school days is a shirt and sweater combination. The classic duo of a shirt and a V-neck sweater will appeal to those who love minimalism. Do you want a safe and quick combination? Choose a white shirt and a colorful/patterned sweater. Still, do you want a rebellious look? Combine shirts and sweaters with different patterns - and you will have rediscovered the old. The final touch to the shirt and sweater combination can be a thin tie.

Shirt + vest + jacket

This winter, vests are highly recommended, which have been forgotten for some time. This year, a warm knitted vest worn over a shirt is returning to the ranks of the most stylish clothes. A vest can be part of a suit or made of a different fabric, but you shouldn't wear three different patterns on top of each other. With this three-piece outerwear combination, you will be prepared for all occasions - in a warmer room, just a shirt and vest will be enough, and in a cooler room, you will be happy to wear a vest under a jacket.

Golf + vest/jacket

Earthy colors, black and white turtlenecks are a must-have in everyone's wardrobe. In the cold season, you will find many ways to wear turtlenecks (with jeans, under a sundress, a button-up coat, a jacket, etc.) and they will add elegance to your image. Turtlenecks are versatile in that they can become an integral part of the outfit with leather pants, a leather jacket, or both together, they can also be a counterbalance to the clothes worn with them (for example, a black turtleneck will muffle the whimsical pattern of the pants) or be the main accent of the image itself due to a high neck, puffed sleeves or a knitted pattern.

Dress + cardigan

A light floral dress with thicker tights, cowboy or jockey style boots and a cardigan is a great way to wear your favorite slim dress even on cool days. A stylish accent can be a wide belt or scarf instead.

Want something original? On the shirt, bodysuit , long-sleeved blouse, choose another garment of similar thickness – say, a sleeveless silk or satin blouse. In this case, the most important thing is not functionality (although believe me, even thin layers warm and protect from sweating in a warm car), but a style detail. In addition, in this case, you use more of your wardrobe options, and at first glance, clothes intended only for the warm season, you adapt to the fall. Your combination options expand several times.

Practical tips

Some clothes or their combinations are immediately rejected by Lithuanians as not warm enough. Such examples can be thinner dresses or jackets, a shirt and vest combination, etc. What to do if you want to hide a new shirt under a thick jacket at work or pull out a long-lost dress, the composition of which does not warm at all? The solution is thin layers. When it's cold, a mandatory part of the wardrobe should be bodysuit . Not too tight and in no way restricting arm movements, but fitting snugly to the body bodysuit long sleeves can be a real salvation. For those who have a hard time enduring cool air, I recommend thin thermal underwear blouses that retain heat but do not cause sweating (special fabrics are used for this, allowing the skin to breathe). I would only suggest choosing not sports thermal underwear blouses, which are thick and not very delicate in design, but high-quality and thin fabric blouses from underwear manufacturers (Intimissimi, Etam, etc.).
